Both locals and visiting yachtsmen alike can be assured of a warm welcome from members of the friendly and informal Sailing Club at Dunbar. We have around 50 members and associates sailing some 23 boats and although there is a lengthy waiting list for moorings, there are opportunities for associate members to crew on some of our members’ yachts.
While we have an excellent clubhouse on the harbour, it is not licensed and an easy way to make contact with the club is to pop down to the Volunteer Arms pub – the club’s spiritual home – where some members can generally be found early on Wednesday and Friday evenings.
The club runs a Wednesday night racing series, tides permitting, and there are also a number of longer races throughout the summer months. Some of our larger boats and more intrepid skippers generally undertake summer cruises to the Orkney Islands, Netherlands and on occasion Norway.
In the winter months there are social events including an annual dinner and presentation of prizes and occasional training courses such as VHF radio and Safety at Sea, presented by our local RNLI Coxswain Gary Fairbairn and his crew.
The club has strong links with the RNLI and also enjoys friendly relations with the Harbour Trust and local fishermen.A fast inflatable Inshore Lifeboat is based at the harbour and the Trent class all-weather lifeboat is generally on a swinging mooring in the bay at Torness Power Station about three miles east of the town.
